Celebrating 50 Years of Transplantation in Hawai‘i

Transplantation is one of the most major achievements in modern medicine. It has
given over hundreds of thousands of people a renewed chance of living a full and
active life. Although we have this life saving surgery the growing need for organs and
tissue outweighs their availability.

So we continue to raise the awareness about the need for organ, tissue, eye, and bone
marrow donors. Did you know that an organ donor can save the lives of up to eight
individuals, and even more if a donor can give corneas and tissue? Almost anyone,
regardless of age, race or gender, can become an organ and tissue donor, and there
are no costs to the person’s family or estate.
